The Senior Station is the Hub for Senior Activities! Whether it is our daily activities, weekly trips or special events, this is the place to be for anyone 55 and over.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

AARP Driving Class
Date(s): Tuesday & Wednesday, May 22 & 23; June 5 & 6, 19 & 20; July 10 & 11, 24 & 25; August 7 & 8, 21 & 22; September 4 & 5, 18 & 19
Location: Senior Station
Time: 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Target Age: Adults aged 50 and older
Description: Pre-registration is required. Students will learn defensive driving techniques, new traffic laws and rules of the road and much more. Plus upon completion you could save money on your car insurance!
Registration will be held at the Senior Station. AARP members fee $15, and non-members $20. Instructor, Eddie Carr.

Lunch & Learn
Date: 2nd Mondays
Time: 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Location: Senior Station
Target Ages: Adults 55 & older
Description: A variety of topics that are health, financial community and wellness related. So staying informed is the vest way to stay healthy. One of our goals is to keep you informed. Come out and hear the latest information on these topics. Registration is required. Please call (757) 391-3241

HEALTH, WELLNESS AND FITNESS

Enhance Fitness
Date: May 14
Time: 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Target Age: Adults 55 and older
Description: This program consists of light stretching, flexibility, increased blood flow and building strength. Each session will end with a cool down. Sessions meet three times a week. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes. You must have a City of Portsmouth facility ID. Instructor Tara Turner

Fitness Room
Date: Open Monday – Friday
Time: 9 a.m. – Noon and 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Location: Senior Station
Target Age: Adults 55 and older
Description: Come work out in our fitness room. Our equipment will help keep you fit. You must be a registered participant. Proper athletic footwear and gym wear required. Participant must have a valid facility I.D. card.

Senior Station Bowling League
Day: Thursday
Time: Noon 
Target Age: Adults 55 and older
Location: Strike Zone Bowling Center, Scott Center Annex
Description: Love to Bowl? Need to join a group? Come join us, and bring a group! Our newest social and physical activity. You must register at the Senior Station, have a valid military or state ID by May 26 in order to get on base. We will have a welcome and put our teams together on April 5. As they say “Good Luck” and “Good Bowling!”

Community Resource Center

Day: Tuesday
Time: 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Location: Senior Station
Target Ages: Adults 55 and older

Description: Portsmouth Health Department and Portsmouth Parks & Recreation introduce: The Community Resource Center. Community Health Workers are available every Tuesday from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. to consult and provide information on local resources for the Senior population. The volunteers are there to complete necessary intake paperwork with clients and to address their needs concerning topics from chronic disease to housing assistance! Our biggest priority is closing the gap to care, and linking our Portsmouth residents with the information they need to live long, healthy lives! COMPUTER LAB

Open Computer Lab
Days: Monday – Thursday & Friday
Times: 9 a.m. – Noon & 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Description: Open computer lab is for registered participants. You must sign in and out. Participant must have a valid facility I.D. card.

Sewing Class

Description: Registration is required. Project and supply list may be picked up first day of class. Participant must have a valid facility I.D. card.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Father’s Day Lunch
Date: Monday, June 18, 2018
Time 11 a.m.
Location: Senior Station
Target Age: Adults age 55 and older
Description: Our Senior Fathers will be honored with a delicious lunch, and gifts. Come join us! Your registration and donation of $6 per person is due by Friday, June 8, 2018.

Annual Senior Fish Fry

Date: Friday June 22, 2018
Time: 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Location: Senior Station
Target Age: Adults age 55 and older
Description: Food, Music, Games and Fun!   A time to socialize, eat fish, play games and just enjoy the day. Come join us! A donation of $12 per person and registration is required by Tuesday, June 19, 2018.

Annual Senior Station Crab Feast

Date: Friday, July 20, 2018
Time: 11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Location: Senior Station
Target Age: Adults age 55 and older
Description: Come enjoy our Annual Crab Feast. If you love to eat crabs then this is the place to be! Donation is $20 per person. Registration and donation are due by Friday, July 13, 2018.

Senior Summer Closing at the Park

Date: Friday, August 24, 2018
Time: 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Location: Portsmouth City Park
Target Age: Adults age 55 and older
Description: Education is the key to being informed. On this day, a presentation will be given on top topics of health and wellness, nutrition, personal care, fitness along with some fun. Health screenings along with Continental Breakfast and Lunch will be provided. Registration fee $5 per person. Please register by Friday, August 31, 2018.

Senior Summer Info Day/A Guide to Healthy Living

Date: Saturday, September 8, 2018
Time: 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Location: Senior Station
Target Age: Adults age 55 and older
Description: What a way to end our summer fun, than with an outdoor fun filled day in the sun. Good food and great games. We will recognize our program participants with awards along with door prizes. Registration and donation of $10 per person is due by August 21, 2018.

 TRIPS AND TOURS

Ahoskie, N.C. – Godwin Meat Market

Date: Thursday, June 14, 2018 
Time: Leaving at 9 a.m. – Returning by 5 p.m.
Target Ages: Adults 55 & older
Description: Time to get ready for summertime grilling; time to get the meats and trimmings for our upcoming holidays. We will make stops at the Piggly Wiggly and lunch at Carolina Bar-B-Que & Chicken. We will be traveling by motor coach. Registration and donations are due by May 31, 2018.

Silver Series Spirit of Norfolk Cruise

Date: Wednesday, July 11, 2018 
Time: 10:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. (boarding at 11:30 a.m.)
Target Ages: Adults 55 & older
Description: Come and enjoy an afternoon on the water. It’s a one of a kind event cruising downtown Norfolk’s waterfront. We will be leaving from the Senior Station.  You will enjoy a wonderful buffet, contest, trivia games, dancing and great prizes. You must have all fees paid by Thursday, June 21, 2018. The price is $42 per person. Space is limited.

Canada & New England Cruise with Royal Caribbean Cruise Line/Grandeur of the Seas
Date: October 11 – 20, 2018
Time: Traveling to Baltimore, Maryland/Leaving at 4 p.m.
Target Ages: Adults 55 & older
Description: Join us on this fabulous cruise with port stops in Boston, Massachusetts, Bar Harbor, Maine, Portland, Maine, St. John New Brunswick and Halifax, Nova Scotia. Call or stop by for cruise rates and additional information. Passport required!
