The Senior Station is the Hub for Senior Activites! Whether it is our daily activities, weekly trips or special events, this is the place to be for anyone 55 and over.

Here are a few of our Trips and Special Events planned for the upcoming season:

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

AARP Driving Class
Date(s): Tuesday & Wednesday, December 5 & 6; January 9 & 10, 23 & 24; February 6 & 7, 20 & 21, March 6 & 7, 20 & 21
Location: Senior Station
Time: 9:30 am – 1:30 pm
Target Age: Adults aged 50 and older
Description: Pre-registration is required. Students will learn defensive driving techniques, new traffic laws and rules of the road and much more. Plus upon completion you could save money on your car insurance!
Registration will be held at the Senior Station. AARP members fee $15, and non-members $20. Instructor, Eddie Carr.

Lunch & Learn
Date: 2nd Mondays, January 8, February 12, March 12
Time: 10:30 – 11:30 am
Location: Senior Station
Target Ages: Adults 55 & older
Description: A variety of topics that are health, financial community and wellness related. So staying informed is the vest way to stay healthy. One of our goals is to keep you informed. Come out and hear the latest information on these topics. Registration is required.

HEALTH, WELLNESS AND FITNESS

Enhance Fitness
Date: Monday, Wednesday, & Friday
Time: 10:30 – 11:30 am
Target Age: Adults aged 55 and older
Description: This program is for adults aged 55 and older. The programs consist of light stretching, flexibility, increase blood flow and building strength. Each session will end with a cool down. Sessions will meet three times a week. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Must have a City of Portsmouth facility ID.  Instructor Tara Turner

Chair Exercise

Date: Tuesday & Thursday

Time: 10:30 -11:30 am

Location: Senior Station

Description: Exercise that is low impact and designed to help keep you flexible and mobile. Please come dress comfortable, loose clothing and tennis shoes suggested.

Fitness Room

Dates: Open Monday-Friday
Time: 9 am – 12 noon & 1 pm – 4 pm
Target Age: Adults 55 and older
Location: Senior Station
Description: Come, work out in our fitness room. Our equipment will help keep you fit. You must be a registered participant. Proper athletic footwear and gym wear required. Participant must have a valid facility I.D. Card.

Community Resource Center/Senior Center

Day: Tuesdays
Time: 10:30 am – 1:30 pm

Target Ages: Adults 55 and older
Description: Portsmouth Health Department and Portsmouth Parks and Recreation introduce: The Community Resource Center. Community Health Workers are available every Tuesday from 10:30am-1:30pm to consult and provide information on local resources for the Senior population. The volunteers are there to complete necessary intake paperwork with clients and to address their needs concerning topics from chronic disease to housing assistance! Our biggest priority is closing the gap to care, and linking our Portsmouth residents with the information they need to live long, healthy lives! Description: Open computer lab is for registered participants. You must sign in and out. Participant must have a valid facility I.D. Card.

Sewing Class
Dates: Thursdays
Time: 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Target Age: Adults age 55 and older
Location: Senior Station
Description: Registration is required one week prior to class. Projects and supply list will be given at time of registration. Participant must have a valid facility I.D. Card.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Christmas Holidays around the World

Description: Celebrating variety of holiday culture’s around the world. Learn their history and how their families celebrate this time of the year.

Candy Cane Holiday Ball
Dates: Tuesday, December 19

Description: It will be a Holly Jolly celebration with food, music, prizes and entertainment. Please register and make a donation of $15 per person by December 6, 2017.

Dr. Martin Luther King Breakfast

Date: January 12

Time 10 am – 12 pm

Location: Senior Station

Target Age: Adults age 55 and older

Description: Celebrating the life and acheivements of Dr. Martin Luther King in his words accompanied by songs. Breakfast will be served. A reservation and $6.00 donation and is requested by January 8, 2018.

Valentine Celebration

Date: February 9

Time 11 am – 2 pm

Location: Senior Station

Target Age: Adults age 55 and older

Description: Celebrate this special day, Valentine’s Day with entertainment, music, fun, food and door prizes. A donation of $10 is due by February 5, 2018.

St. Patrick’s Day Celebration

Date: March 16

Time 11 am – 2 pm

Target Age: Adults age 55 and older

Description: “Top of the Morning ” Join us as we celebrate the wearing of Green and the traditions of Ireland in food and games. A donation of $8.00 per person is due by March 12, 2018.

Good Friday Breakfast

Date: March 30

Time 10 am – 12 pm

Location: Senior Station

Target Age: Adults age 55 and older

Description: Join us at our annual Good Friday Breakfast as we celebrate the ending of Passion Week in songs and poems. A donation of $6.00 per person is due by March 26, 2018.

Annual Senior Sports Day

Date: May 7-10

Time 8 am – 4 pm

Target Age: Adults age 55 and older

Description: As we celebrate “Older Americans Month” we want to continue to celebrate and promote healthy lifestyle for our mature adults. We are hosting our 28th Annual Senior Sports Event. This event will include over 20 events to inlcude; track & field, basketball, softball hit and throws along with table games that include spades, dominoes and checkers. We will again by hosting our newest events, Golf, Pinocle, Ping Pong and Corn hole. So save the date! We will also have a Wellness Day and Opening Ceremony with a Special Guest and closing with our Awards Ceremonies and Party. Registration begins February 1 – April 20, 2018. Application can be picked up at the Senior Station, Recreation Centers, Parks & Recreation Office, 3rd Floor City Hall and our Public Libraries.

  TRIPS AND TOURS

Museum of “The Bible”
Date: April 10, 2018
Time: 6 am – 10 pm
Target Ages: Adults 55 & older
Description: The Museum of the Bible has been noted as an unparalleled experience using cutting edge technology to bring the Bible to Life. This experience will span time, space and culture inving everyone to engage with the Bible. The experience will cover the Impact of the Bible, Narratives of the Bible and a nazareth Village as well as the History of the Bible. There is so much more…Join us. We will travel by motor coach with breakfast and dinner stops. Fee of $35 per person due by March 30, 2018.

Canada & New England Cruise
Date: October 11 – 20, 10 Days/9 Nights
Time: TBA
Target Ages: Adults 55 & older
Description: Join us and Grand American Tours as we travel the coast with stops in Boston, Portland, Bar Harbor, St. John and Halifax, Nova Scotia. We will be cruising with the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line. Registration begins in January and payments will be online or call in to company. An initial deposit of $350 per person for double occupancy or $700 per person for single occupancy. Our departure and return location is Baltimore, Maryland and an additional charge is required for bus transportation. Passport is required.
