The Senior Station is a facility to keep adults aged 55 and older informed, engaged, with your peers, activity with special events, trips (local and overnight) as well as resources in the community. YES we are the Hub of Activities for Programs for Senior Adults! Come join Us!

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

AARP Driving Class
Date(s): Tuesday & Wednesday, September 5, 6, 12, & 13; October 2 & 3; November 7 & 8; December 5 & 6
Location: Senior Station
Time: 9:30 am – 1:30 pm
Target Age: Adults aged 50 and older
Description: Pre-registration is required. Students will learn defensive driving techniques, new traffic laws and rules of the road and much more. Plus upon completion you could save money on your car insurance!
Registration will be held at the Senior Station. AARP members fee $15, and non-members $20. Instructor, Eddie Carr.

Lunch & Learn
Date: 2nd Mondays
Time: 10:30 – 11:30 am
Location: Senior Station
Target Ages: Adults 55 & older
Description: A variety of topics that are health, financial community and wellness related. So staying informed is the vest way to stay healthy. One of our goals is to keep you informed. Come out and hear the latest information on these topics. Registration is required.

HEALTH, WELLNESS AND FITNESS

Enhance Fitness
Date: Sept 11 – Dec 8
Time: 10:30 – 11:30 am
Target Age: Adults aged 55 and older
Description: This program is for adults aged 55 and older. The programs consist of light stretching, flexibility, increase blood flow and building strength. Each session will end with a cool down. Sessions will meet three times a week. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Must have a City of Portsmouth facility ID. Instructor Tara Turner

Fitness Room
Dates: Open Monday-Friday
Time: 9 am – 12 noon & 1 pm – 4 pm
Target Age: Adults 55 and older
Location: Senior Station
Description: Come, work out in our fitness room. Our equipment will help keep you fit. You must be a registered participant. Proper athletic footwear and gym wear required. Participant must have a valid facility I.D. Card.

Community Resource Center/Senior Center
Day: Tuesdays
Time: 10:30 am – 1:30 pm

Target Ages: Adults 55 and older
Description: Portsmouth Health Department and Portsmouth Parks and Recreation introduce: The Community Resource Center. Community Health Workers are available every Tuesday from 10:30am-1:30pm to consult and provide information on local resources for the Senior population. The volunteers are there to complete necessary intake paperwork with clients and to address their needs concerning topics from chronic disease to housing assistance! Our biggest priority is closing the gap to care, and linking our Portsmouth residents with the information they need to live long, healthy lives! Description: Open computer lab is for registered participants. You must sign in and out. Participant must have a valid facility I.D. Card.

Sewing Class
Dates: Thursdays
Time: 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Target Age: Adults age 55 and older
Location: Senior Station
Description: Registration is required one week prior to class. Projects and supply list will be given at time of registration. Participant must have a valid facility I.D. Card.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Grand Parents Day Celebration, Grandkids on Display
Dates: September 8
Time: 10:30 am – 2:00 pm

Target Ages: Ages 55 & older
Description: Grandparents join our celebration by displaying your precious grandchildren. Displaying pictures and sharing some of the delightful stories behind those pictures. Join us by sharing your photos. Please call the facility to get additional information on displaying your pictures.

Celebrating National Senior Center Month: Senior Centers: Masters in Aging:
Dates: Monday – Friday, September 11 – 15
Time: 10:30 am – 11:30 am each day

Description: Join us as we celebrate our  Senior Center during National Senior Center Month. The 2017 theme is, “Senior Center: Masters in Aging.” Each day we will highlight the opportunities that make Seniors Centers great in every community. We will have an open house of our programs and activities, feature speakers on a variety of topics and conclude with a Bingo Party on Friday. Please call to register at 757-391-3241.

National Crime Prevention Day
Dates: Tuesday, October 17

Description: Seniors Taking a Bite out of Crime! Let’s be informed on different scams and crimes that affect our community and our seniors. Let’s be Prepared! This presentation will be made by our local TRIAD Office. Please call 7257-391-3241 for additional information.

National Breast Cancer Awareness Day
Dates: Friday, October 20

Description: Wear your pink and celebrate all Breast Cancer Survivors. Come share your story. We will have a guest speakers, light refreshments and ribbons to Celebrate!

Fall Carnival
Dates: Monday, October 30
Time: :8:30 am – 2:30 pm

Target Ages: Ages 50 & older
Description: Carnival time! The day will be filled with games, food, prizes and a lot of FUN! Your registration and your donation of $6 is due by October 23, 2017.

Family Caregivers Recognition
Dates: Thursday, November 9
Time: 10:30 am
Location: Senior Station
Target Ages: Ages 50 & older
Description: Let’s say thank you to your special Family Caregiver. Please submit names and a brief summary of how that person has made a difference in your loved ones life. We will have light refreshments and awards presented. All submissions are due by November 1, 2017. Call 757-391-3241 for additional information.

National Game & Puzzle Week
Dates: Monday & Tuesday, November 20 & 21

Description: Table games, word puzzles, card games; come play with us. If you don’t know how we will teach you. Who knows you may be crowned the King or Queen of National Game and Puzzle Week! No registration required.

Holiday Cocoa and Carols

Description: It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Singing carols and sipping cocoa will get you in the mood for holiday decorating and shopping. So join us as we start the holiday right!

Description: Celebrating variety of holiday culture’s around the world. Learn their history and how their families celebrate this time of the year.

Candy Cane Holiday Ball

Description: It will be a Holly Jolly celebration with food, music, prizes and entertainment. Please register and make a donation of $15 per person by December 6, 2017.

I.G.C. Inc. Concierge Jewelers

Description: Call or make an appointment to have your jewelry appraised, watches repaired and if you have old precious jewelry it could be sold as well. Please call to set up an appointment to repair or to evaluate your jewelry.

TRIPS AND TOURS

Wildwood Seafood Feast

Description: Trip includes 3 nights, 3 breakfasts, 3 dinners and a one All you can eat Seafood Feast Buffet. A $20 voucher at Resorts Casino, Trip to Atlantic City, Washington Street Mall, Smith Village and Wildwood’s famous Boardwalk and much more. Christmas in New York

Description: Trip includes round trip motor coach transportation, 2 nights in New Jersey, 2 breakfasts and dinners, shopping along 5th Avenue, View of Rockefeller Center and the famous tree and a guided tour of New York at Christmas.
